Interpreter Code of Ethics

Interpreter/Translator shall always thoroughly and faithfully render the source language message, omitting or adding nothing, giving consideration to linguistic variations in both source and target languages, conserving the tone and spirit of the source language message.

The Interpreter/Translator shall respect all confidences received in the course of interpretation. All information gained by the Interpreter/Translator in the course of his/her professional duties shall remain strictly confidential. Interpreter/Translator shall not publicly discuss, report, or offer an opinion concerning matters in which they are or have been engaged, even when that information is not privileged by law to be confidential.

Interpreter/Translator shall always be neutral, impartial, unbiased, and shall not discriminate on the basis of gender, disability, race, color, national origin, age, socioeconomic or educational status, or religious or political beliefs.

The Interpreter/Translator shall be impartial and unbiased and shall refrain from conduct that may give an appearance of bias. He/she shall not allow personal opinions to interfere with his/her duties nor add unsolicited comments or make recommendations except to assist communication.

The Interpreter/Translator shall disclose any real or perceived conflict of interest. He/she shall not take personal advantage, financial or otherwise, of information obtained in the course of his/her work.

The Interpreter/Translator shall, at all times, assess his/her ability to maintain highest standards for professional interpretation and translation. He/she shall immediately convey any reservations about his/her ability to successfully complete the assignment, for the customer. The Interpreter/Translator shall decline any assignment he/she believes to be beyond his/her technical knowledge or linguistic ability.

Interpreter shall provide excellent customer service. He/she shall maintain a professional demeanor, be courteous and use the tone of voice appropriate to the situation. Interpreter/Translator shall be culturally competent, sensitive, and respectful of the individual(s) they serve.

Interpreter/Translator shall continually improve his/her skills and knowledge. Interpreter/Translator shall maintain and improve his/her skills and knowledge through activities such as professional training or education and interaction with colleagues and specialists in related fields.

Interpreter/Translator shall not counsel, refer, give advice, or express personal opinions to individuals for whom they are interpreting/translating, or engage in any other activities that may be construed to constitute a service other than interpreting/translating.

The Interpreter shall act at all times in accordance with the standards of conduct, and decorum appropriate to his/her profession.

THIS CODE APPLIES TO ANICHKIN RUSSIAN-AMERICAN COMMUNICATION SERVICES PROVIDING LANGUAGE INTERPRETING OR TRANSLATION SERVICES AND MUST BE COMPLIED WITH AT ALL TIMES.
